The board has introduced on-screen marking (OSM) for Class 12 board exams, while the evaluation of Class 10 answer sheets will continue in offline mode, as usual. The introduction of CBSE’s OSM is only for Class 12, where the answer book will be evaluated through digital form starting with the session 2026-27. CBSE has also released the OSM Mock Evaluation and Marking Instructions to all teachers for 2026.

CBSE Officials Announced On-Screen Marking

With this new OSM System, CBSE implies the use of an online platform to scan answer books and upload them for evaluation instead of manual checking of answer sheets. After this implementation, the evaluation process will be sped up, and any errors while checking the answer book manually will be reduced. For this, CBSE will also conduct CBSE OSM Training via a dry run and through video to educate teachers to participate in this CBSE Digital Evaluation Process.

As we know, every year, CBSE conducts board examinations for class 10 and class 12 across India as well as abroad. Nearly a million students from both 10th and 12th classes appear in the examination and are waiting for their final results after completing the exam. With this initiative, the board has introduced On-Screen Marking (OSM), through which students can get their results as soon as possible compared to the previous year, without any errors. The announcement of CBSE On-Screen Marking was introduced officially on 9th February 2026 with the aim of speeding up the evaluation, improving accuracy in the CBSE Results, and ensuring transparency in the result declaration.

What is On-Screen Marking (OSM) of CBSE?

In today’s digital era, education is being transformed digitally, and boards are also trying to implement digitisation to improve all board-related work. However, this will take some time, but once implemented, it will speed up the official work and also be useful for the schools and teachers for the CBSE Examinations.

Through the OSM System, theanswer book of students after the examination will be scanned and uploaded to the given CBSE Online Evaluation Platform for marking purposes. This process will improve the marking error instead of the physical marking. Teachers will be allotted a CBSE OSM Login Credential by the board, and they can use these credentials to login the OASIS Portal for further tasks.

How is CBSE On-Screen Marking Important?

If we see the importance of this CBSE OSM System, then it will improve the evaluation process of the answer book after the examination completion. The teacher will scan the answer book and upload it to the platform to evaluate the marking of the students without any errors.

The CBSE Digital Evaluation System will enhance the overall evaluation of the examination, where students are curious to know their marks in this exam. Online Evaluation through the OSM Portal provides a better way to evaluate the answer sheet, which will allow fast result declaration. As before, students waited for the CBSE Board Exam Results and Score Card, but after this reform, the evaluation and result declaration might be sped up.

CBSE’s OSM 2026: Changes for Teachers

The board has announced the On-Screen Marking (OSM) for the new session 2026-27. Through this, the evaluation of answer books will be done digitally. Teachers will be guided about the use of this CBSE OSM System by conducting training programs where they are allowed to practice multiple times. This will not impact the daily routine of the teachers, but will make the evaluation process smooth. The training facility is available from 16th February 2026 onward.

Once it is implemented, as officially announced for the 2026 exams, teachers will be allotted login credentials with OASIS IDs, such as User ID, Login Password, and school number, to access the CBSE OSM Portal. Teachers will scan the answer book and upload it to the platform after the examination, and this system will evaluate the mark digitally without any errors. After this initiative, the marking error will be reduced and significantly improve the overall evaluation experience.

Changes for Students in CBSE OSM 2026

Generally, CBSE has made this platform to evaluate the students’ performance digitally after the exam. Through this, students will not be impacted through the CBSE Online Evaluation Platform, and whether they can receive their CBSE Score Card on time without any mathematical errors. For the students, the process of examination and others will remain the same. There will be no changes in the CBSE Exam Syllabus and Pattern.

This system is only for the schools affiliated with the CBSE, where teachers will be trained to use the CBSE OSM portal by providing them OSM Portal Login Credential. Teachers will be able to access the platform by using their login credentials and can perform the CBSE Digital Evaluation by clicking on the particular subjects

How Schools will be Prepared for CBSE OSM?

CBSE has already instructed in a webinar conducted for the new implementation of this On-Screen Marking. In this webinar, schools that are affiliated with the CBSE Board have been instructed to follow all the instructions to use the CBSE OSM System for the session 2026. The new system is made for the class 12 examination only.

In this, the board has provided some instructions to all the schools and teachers to use this system. Schools must implement this system by having the following criteria:

• A School must organise a Computer Lab with a public static IP.
• Each System (Computer) must run on Windows 8 and above.
• The RAM must be 4GB or above.
• The Browser used in the System must be updated.
• The system should be Adobe Reader.
• Must have an internet connection with at least 2 Mbps speed.
